Let’s put a stop to the nonsense
DEAR EDITOR:
Elections have consequences. Isn’t that what they always say? Especially the winning side. Could it be the consequences of this past election have put our country in danger of being physically attacked by our adversaries? These rounds of blanket firings of government employees without a thorough examination of their duties has led to this possibility. Combine that with the ineptitude of those charged with leading these agencies (because of their political loyalties) and you have a perfect storm. The most blatant example is the recent firing of hundreds of employees of the National Nuclear Security Administration. These employees work on reassembling nuclear warheads, one of the most sensitive jobs requiring highest levels of clearance. Many of these workers found out they were dismissed when they were locked our when coming to work. They were notified by email but their email accounts were closed before they got the message. Hah!
Fortunately, the administration has walked back these firings. Good for them, and us. But how many more employees will be dismissed without the investigations of their departments? And we’re talking about faithful employees charged with protecting our national security. All of this confusion within our government is being watched closely by enemies of our country, making us ripe for attack.
The mantra of the tech world is “move fast and break things.” That is exactly what this self-appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency, otherwise known as DOGE, is doing. This is the man whose hobby is blowing up rockets over the ocean. How long before Congress does some real bi-partisan work and puts a stop to this nonsense? Before it’s too late. (Maybe DOGE should be renamed the Department of Hell, or DOH.)
