Government entities should be accountable
DEAR EDITOR:
Accountability with our tax dollars is long overdue. Thankfully, we now have a president that is finally taking action to right size our government by downsizing the workforce, eliminating unnecessary agencies and removing duplicate personnel. The Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE is now performing the actions that all U.S. Citizens that pay taxes should want and encourage. It’s always a painful process to lay people off. Almost everyone can sympathize with a job loss since we either have been through it our have known someone close that has been through this in the private sector. Having to rebuild by developing new skills is never easy; but it is necessary to bring value to an ever-changing workforce- and in return it enhances our lives, as well.
The government shouldn’t be a works program like it has become. Instead, it should only employ the bare minimum personnel to effectively govern its citizenry. Just like a business, every so many years, you have the right to size your workforce in order to stay competitive. Getting rid of all the unnecessary processes, waste of resources and personnel that are not adding value to the bottom line are the essential steps required for continuing an effective, valuable enterprise. There may be many of you that will say you can’t run the government like a business, but government is a big business that doesn’t produce anything; and its income is based on your tax dollars. So why wouldn’t you want it to run efficiently?
We, as taxpayers, should be thankful that Elon Musk is at the helm steering our country back on course. But this is causing many to lose their minds because the gravy train, as they know it, might come to an end. Who among us can run their households like our current government? Who can go deeper and deeper into debt and still spend money like a drunken sailor, thinking tomorrow will never come? Who thinks by having multiple, duplicate agencies that we, as the people, are better served?
Our government would run much more efficiently if there was just one rule implemented in Congress. The rule would be that no congressman can ever run for reelection if our government’s budget is not balanced. Efficiency in government is a group of words often spoken, but seldom put into practice. Let’s pray that this time government will be synonymous with efficiency, working for the people, and not against.
