Patricia Rock 1948-2024
GRAYSLAKE, Ill. — Patricia Rock, 75, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Center, after a short illness, with her daughter and grandson by her side.
She was born Nov. 22, 1948, to Michael “Jack” and Gloria Moran, in Elkins, W.Va.
She grew up living in Warren and remained there until the death of her husband, John Rock, in 2005. She then lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, until 2020, when after the death of her son, David, she moved to Grayslake, Illinois, to be near her daughter, Lisa Rock.
Everywhere Patty went there was a smile and a home where everyone was welcome. She loved to travel, bake, cook, read, do crossword puzzles, swim and spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was an amazing writer who used her skills to get a small-town swim team on the front page of the sports section. She took yearly trips with her family to Florida, Canada and West Virginia. She volunteered at every school function for her children and was involved with the boosters for the Warren G. Harding swim team and choirs, giving out communion at Trumbull Memorial Hospital with Father Walker and being a mom to everyone.
Living across the street from the Harding football stadium, everyone stopped over before and after football games to hang out. She was at every swim meet, choir concert and school assembly. For the seven years her children were in high school with morning practice at 6 a.m., she got up and made a hot breakfast and packed a second one for after practice, along with lunch. Dinner was always on the table after swim practice, and her home was clean, beautifully decorated and full of music and laughter.
Summers were spent at her parents’ pool down the street, where everyone learned to swim, having cookouts and visiting with people who were just stopping by.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Robin) of Grayslake, Illinois; her grandchildren, Erika (Dennis) of Nashville, Alex of Warren, Ian (Jerrod) of Olympia, Washington (mother, Heather Rock), and Danny of Grayslake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rock; her son, David Rock; and her parents, Mike and Gloria Moran.
A visitation will be 4:30 to 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, at Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, with a memorial service at 5:30 p.m.
