Elaine M. Calugar 1943-2024

TUCKER, Ga. — Elaine Marie Calugar passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 81. It is with saddened hearts, the family announces her passing.

Elaine was born April 19, 1943, in Rochester, Pa., to John and Mary Moldovan Calugar.

She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1961 and attended Warren Business College. Elaine was employed by Aetna Freight Lines, Cargill Inc., and retired from Frank Schneider and Company of Atlanta, Georgia, as a registered futures commodity broker. She lived in the greater Atlanta area from 1973 until her passing.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Mary and John Calugar.

She is survived by her sister, Diane Calugar Koers; brother-in-law, Patrick Koers; nieces, Vicki Burdick (Brandt) and Kristi Thompson (Troy); longtime companion, Danny T. Little; and Daniel and Amanda Little.

Elaine’s interests included her beloved church, singing, cooking and entertaining friends at her home. While living in Warren, she attended Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church, where she sang in the church choir and was very active in the local and national youth group, AROY. Upon moving to Atlanta, her love of music led her to be a member of the DeKalb Choral Guild and church choir. She was a member of St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church in Norcross, Georgia, and served as their parish council secretary, church school teacher and choir member for many years.

Elaine served the church in a multitude of capacities and was affectionately given the title of “The Church Lady.” As Parkinson’s began to limit her activities, she was still able to serve the church by composing a weekly service schedule and decorating, with live flowers, the special icons used in feast day services.
