John J. DiCenso Jr. 1940-2024

WARREN — John J. “JD” DiCenso Jr., 83, peacefully passed away at his residence early Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

He was born Nov. 6, 1940, in Warren, the son of John J. Sr. and Mary Bufano DiCenso. He was a lifelong area resident.

JD attended Warren City Schools and graduated in 1958 from Warren G. Harding High School.

He began his career working at Copperweld Steel Manufacturing Company, from 1958 until 1963, as an overhead craneman. Following his passion for helping others, JD started working with the city of Warren as a fireman on Jan. 1, 1964, until March 21, 1965. JD joined the Warren Police Department on Aug. 1, 1968, as a patrolman and worked his way through the ranks as detective, a sergeant and retired as a lieutenant on Jan. 4, 1994. After his retirement, he worked at Trumbull Family Court as a bailiff for Judge Richard James from 1996 until 2012. (JD also said this was the best job he ever had). JD also held a position at the Trumbull Eastern District Court in Brookfield and Cortland. He was appointed as a civil service commissioner, serving as vice president from May 2, 2000, through the present date.

JD was an active member of St. Mary Church, where he served as an usher for over 25 years.

JD had many passions in his life. He was an avid reader of many different types of books and loved physical fitness, where he would work out three or four times a week in his gym at his home and at Global Fitness. JD enjoyed listening to blues music every chance he got, and most of all, he was a regular at the Mocha House every morning with the “Mocha Gang,” having breakfast and enjoying laughs and the friendship of his close and new friends.

JD leaves behind “the love of his life,” his wife of over 25 years, Maryann, whom he married Oct. 16, 1998; a grandson, Nick Horner; three great-grandchildren, Tom, Michael and John Lindic; his brother, Michael A. (Moselle) DiCenso; his sister, Donna Jean (Robert) Stassinis; along with many friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all who loved their Uncle JD.

JD was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Daniel DiCenso; a daughter, Regina “Gina” DiCenso; and his granddaughter, Danielle Lindic.
