Weathersfield schools receive $38,940 for security measures

WEATHERSFIELD — The Weathersfield Local School District is among five districts statewide receiving a share of more than $1 million for school security measures.

The investments come from the Department of Justice’s COPS School Violence Prevention Program, which invests in evidence-based school safety programs.

Weathersfield will receive $38,940.

Other districts receiving funds include Lorain schools near Cleveland ($500,000), Edison Local School District in Jefferson County ($338,043), Worthington City School District in Franklin County ($150,000) and Promise Academy in Cleveland ($30,028).

Wethersfield Superintendent Damon Dohar said he is “super excited” the district received the funds, which will be used to upgrade the district’s old camera system with new cameras that have more capabilities and also to change the school buildings’ outdoor locks with a biometric system.

Starting at $2.99/week.
