On the record Mecca

WHAT: Trustees meetings in August and September

PRESENT: Christen Clemson, Dan Galbincea and George Chopko

Trustees:

• Administered the oath of office to Chopko, who is serving the remainder of the term of former Trustee James Governor, who died in July.

• Agreed to hire Shelley and Sands Inc. at $110,111 to widen and resurface Lakeview Drive. Trustees said there have been problems with flooding on the street.

• Agreed to proceed with the tar and chipping various roads.

• Said they are reviewing a situation with the township’s insurance company with parking issues at the township park. When there is a farmers market nearby and also baseball games at the same time, people are parking on both sides of the park road, making it difficult for safety vehicles to get through. Overflow traffic from the farmers market is parking at the park. Officials also have heard from residents of parking issues at the township circle with businesses there.

• Approved proceeding with renewals of two levies on the November ballot. A 1.7-mill, three-year fire and emergency medical service levy would generate $85,000 annually and a 1.5-mill, four-year fire and EMS levy would generate $69,000 annually,

• Heard from Galbincea the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office is mowing both sides of ditches on the west of Mecca and dealing with trees and branches obstructing views. Residents were concerned with Housel Craft Road, where ditches were not trimmed on both sides. There was concern for visibility.

• Said they are waiting on word from Trumbull County commissioners on $175,000 to be used with a $100,000 grant the trustees obtained for building a new township hall.

• Heard from fire Chief Tom Domes that Bristol officials would like to continue with fire district talks.

• Set trick or treat for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
