Neighborhood group seeks to decorate downtown Warren

Deadline to submit artwork for mural and bus shelter wrap extended to Friday

WARREN — Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership has extended the deadline to Friday for artists to create a vibrant mural and bus shelter wrap that celebrates the essence of a healthy community.

This initiative aims to transform public spaces into inspiring, engaging environments that promote wellness, unity and positivity, according to a news release from TNP. In conjunction with the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, Trumbull County Combined Health District, TNP, and the Healthy Community Partnership, community leaders are reimagining the corner of High Street in Warren by adding a bus stop shelter, mural, a bicycle rack and fix-it station.

The project is funded by the Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley, TCCHD and FACT. This bus stop is a popular stop on the WRTA Warren Express route, and is heavily utilized for downtown amenities. The bus shelter will be installed later this fall, and the mural will be ideally completed in early 2025.

“This initiative aims to transform public spaces into inspiring, engaging environments that promote wellness, unity and positivity,” said Jessica King, president of FACT.

The mural will be installed on the northside of the 180 North Park Avenue building, where Art on Park is located. Submitted designs for the mural can cover the entirety of the wall, which is 118 feet wide and 45 feet tall. The chosen artist will be compensated $20,000 for the mural, which will embody the theme of a healthy community. Artists must provide their own supplies.

The bus shelter will be installed on the eastbound side of the road on High Street. Artists are welcome to submit wrap designs, and the wrap and installation will be completed by FACT. The shelter’s wrap design must follow the 20.25 feet long by 5.8 feet tall dimensions. The budget for the bus shelter project is $1,500.

Artists are allowed to turn in submissions for one or both projects.

Candidates must be age 18 or older, eligible to work in the United States and professional artists, designers or fabricators or partnered with professional artists, designers or fabricators. Artists are encouraged to engage the community throughout the process, but that is not required.

More information can be found on Facebook, as well as the Call to Artists full description. For questions and to submit artwork, contact Jessica King at jessica@tnpwarren.org or 330-469-6828 ext. 104. Submissions can be dropped off to Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, c/o Jessica King, 736 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483.

Projects must be completed within 90 days of the artist being chosen.
