Warren police investigating fatal Tuesday night shooting

Staff report

WARREN — Police are investigating the shooting death of a man, marking the city’s second homicide victim of the year.

Police were called around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday to 1028 Lovers Lane NW for a reported gunshot victim.

A woman called 911, telling dispatch her friend, whom she identified only by the name Howard, had just been shot and was bleeding from the mouth as he lay on the dining room floor, according to a recording of the call. She told dispatchers she had been asleep on the couch and was awoken by the sound of gunfire. As she woke up, she told dispatch she saw two men running out of the home.

The woman later said she believed the two men were related to a relative of hers, telling dispatch all she heard were the men asking if a relative of the victim was home. The woman checked to see if the man was still breathing, but said she was unsure. She also reported a handgun was on the floor, according to the recording.

When police arrived, they administered immediate assistance. The man was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Detective Frank Tempesta is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact him at 330-841-2651.

The first homicide victim in Warren was Jont’e Davis, 33, a U.S. Postal Service employee who was shot and killed March 2. Davis was found inside his postal van on Olive Avenue NE with a gunshot wound and later died at Trumbull Regional.

Police are continuing to investigate. No arrest has been made.
