Rust Belt reanimates ‘Living Dead’

After a one-year hiatus, Rust Belt Theater Company is bringing back “Living Dead: The Musical” for a pre-Halloween run.

According to Rust Belt founder Robert Dennick Joki, “We took a break from this script last season, and a lot of our patrons missed it. So the show is back this year with a new cast and a fresh pair of eyes.”

Keith Stepanic will direct the musical, written by Joki and Josh Taylor.

The musical parody spoofs George A. Romero’s low-budget B&W film “Night of the Living Dead” and horror movie tropes.

It follows the story of a group of strangers who board themselves up in an abandoned farmhouse to escape the zombie apocalypse.

Personalities clash and tensions rise as the undead hoard descends upon the house for an evening of music, parody and dancing.

This is the 12th time Rust Belt has staged the show, one of the oldest productions in its repertoire.

The cast features Nicole Zayas, Caitlyn Murphy, Sarah Whitlach, Heather Powell, Rian Davis, Brooke Jonas, Jon Bunge, Caitlyn Cole, Lisa Torrence, Diane Marie, Cadence Treich, Patience Miles, Robert May, Jessica Patoray, Jennifer Hutton, Adelyn Crum, Eli Smith, Vicci Sfikas and Stepanic.

“Living Dead: The Musical” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Oct. 26 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.

Starting at $2.99/week.
