Gerald W. Simpson Sr. 1951-2012

WARREN - Gerald Wayne "Big Daddy" Simpson Sr., 60, 705 Oak Knoll Ave., S.E., Warren, departed this life Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at East Liverpool City Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He was born Nov. 16, 1951, in Cleveland, the son of James Burford and Lillian Simpson, residing in the area for 36 years.

Mr. Simpson was employed with Sprint Telecommunications Company for 32 years as a supervisor before retiring in 2007. He also managed his grandson, Mario Manningham, and was managing partner of Cashmere LLC. He also worked for United Telephone and Embarq telephone Ccompanies and was a 1969 graduate of Glennville High School.

He belonged to New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, where he served as trustee, deacon, member of the soup kitchen and van ministries, intercessory prayer leader, pastor's armor bearer and past treasurer, Nurses Guild and male choir. He enjoyed football, barbecuing, reading and bowling. He also served as past coach for the Warren Little Eagles.

Mr. Simpson married the former Annie B. Rice Jan. 16, 1991.

Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn three sons, Gerald Wayne (Emma) Simpson Jr. of Warren and Gary Lynn Simpson and Scotty Manningham of Cleveland; three daughters, Ms. L. Denise Lee and Mrs. Vannessa (Jarrett) Smith, both of Cleveland, and Ms. Marion Manningham of Warren; one brother, Herman B. (Cynthia) Simpson Jr. of Warren; two sisters, Mrs. Marva (James) Cromety of Warren and Ms. Karla Simpson of Cleveland; 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sons, Ben Jr., Johnny B. and Albert Manningham.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, where calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at 705 Oak Knoll Ave. S.E., the home of his wife, Annie B. Simpson.

Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
