HUBBARD - Albert T. "Bert" Madeline Sr., 78, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Hubbard, the son of the late Albert M. and Josephine V. Catalano Madeline.
A lifetime area resident and veteran of the U.S. Army, Bert served his country during the Korean War.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, Bert went on to earn his bachelor's in education from Kent State University and a master's degree from Youngstown State University. He began his teaching career for the Cleveland school district in the mid-1960s.
He went on to teach at schools in Youngstown and Kinsman, and retired in 1998 from the McDonald school system.
Bert was also the co-owner and operator of the Village Tavern in Hubbard from 1966 until 1986.
He was a devoted member of St. Patrick Church in Hubbard, where he served on the Parish Council, taught CCD and was a distributor of Holy Communion. He was a member of the K of C and gave unselfishly of his time volunteering to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Bert served his community as a councilman of the 4th Ward.
One of his proudest moments was this spring when he was inducted into the Hubbard High School All Sports Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, gardening and canning. Bert was known for the numerous handcrafted walking sticks and canes that he made and gave away to family, friends and complete strangers who were in need.
A wise and gentle soul, his greatest joys came from being able to provide for his family and spending time with them.
Bert will be dearly missed by the love of his life and best friend, Margaret "Peggy" Leslie Madeline of Hubbard, whom he married June 23, 1962. Together they shared 50 years of marriage, having just celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and created quite a legacy.
Bert is survived by their six children, Albert T. (Lee Anne) Madeline Jr. of Hubbard, Mary Catherine Madeline Devine of Hubbard, Amy M. (Bruno) Romeo of Poland, Becky M. (Paul) Wolford of McDonald, Richard J. (Elizabeth) Madeline of Poland and Brian J. (Hillary) Madeline of Howland; 15 grandchildren, Sophia and Albert Joseph Madeline, Catherine Devine, Vincent, Nicholas and Marcus Romeo, Dale, Calvin, Isabella, Lucia and Wyatt Wolford, Emily Russell, Richard and Lilliana Madeline and Amanda Madeline; two brothers, Daniel (Joanne) Madeline and David (Linda) Madeline, both of Hubbard; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Johanna M. Tucciarone; and her husband, Jack.
Family and friends will be welcomed from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Prayers will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.
Bert will be laid to rest in the Hubbard Union Cemetery, where full military honors will be observed.
