Marie Dippolito shows off her ‘World’ at TAG

Trumbull Art Gallery has been a part of Marie Dippolito's world since its inception.

Dippolito has volunteered for the organization since it started as the Trumbull Art Guild more than 50 years ago, and her work appears regularly there in the TAG Annual, Trumbull Area Artists exhibitions and other group shows.

''Welcome to My World'' is her first solo show with TAG since its early days, when it was still the guild. And she believes it serves a valuable purpose in the area.

''I just feel every community should have some organization that would be a true outlet for artists to display their work and also for the community to come see it and purchase it,'' Dippolito said. ''It's good for the artists, good for the community, good for everyone.''

The exhibition is a retrospective of her work drawing on pieces from her personal collection.

''There are pastels, watercolors, collages, assemblages, everything but oils,'' Dippolito said.

She does oils too; she just didn't include any for this show.

Many of the paintings of clowns and jesters were inspired by her trips to Parade the Circle at Cleveland's University Circle, and the portraits were selected from more than 30 years as a member of the TAG Portrait Group, which now meets weekly at the SCOPE Center.

''That was the hardest to figure out which ones to display because I have so many of them,'' Dippolito said.

Because of her long tenure as a volunteer at TAG, she said the show also complements the gallery's other exhibition. ''TAG Artists'' showcases the work of gallery volunteers Scott Chopko, Cynde Kennedy, Salli Kowalski, Paula Smith and Judy Waid.

Both shows run through Aug. 3 at Trumbull Art Gallery, 196-198 E. Market St., Warren. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 330-395-4876.
