WARREN - Police say a young woman was shot about 10:25 p.m. Saturday.

A police spokesman at the scene said the woman was shot somewhere in the 2000 block of Hamilton Avenue S.W. He did not have a name for the woman. Police were still looking for a suspect late Saturday, the spokesman said.

A call came across police scanners Saturday night for a report of a woman lying in the road with a possible gunshot wound to the head.

Moments earlier, a dark-colored SUV drove down Hamilton, a shot was fired out the window, and the vehicle sped away down Austin Avenue.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

A detective was called out to take over the investigation, and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers helped city police block off the road. Officers could be seen searching for evidence and taking notes in the middle of the road, where there was a pair of woman's flip flops.

It was the third shooting within a week in the area.

Early Monday morning, a man was found shot to death in a Charles Avenue S.E. home.

On Wednesday, the body of a man was found in the yard of a vacant a Dover Avenue S.E. home in Warren Township. That man had been taken in broad daylight from a Meadowbrook Avenue home in Warren July 8, police said.

Warren has two homicides so far in 2012. The city had 10 homicides last year.
