DEAR EDITOR:
Nancy Pelosi's statement about Obamacare that "We have to pass the bill so that we can find out what is in it" has been exposed. It is a tax.
After the Supreme Court's ruling that Obamacare's individual mandate, which requires individuals to be insured or pay a fine, is constitutional under the Congress' taxation powers, the stakes were raised for "We the People" to elect a new president and a new Republican majority in the U.S. Senate. The law, Roberts wrote, "makes going without insurance just another thing the government taxes." This multi-billion dollar tax on the middle class families has got to be stopped. As Mitt Romney stated, "If we want to get rid of Obamacare, we are going to have to replace President Obama."
But, irrespective of this huge tax increase, Obamacare is a government takeover of our freedom to make our own health care choices, choose our own doctor and receive the health care that our physician feels is best for our situation - not a bureaucrat. Also, it is a deterrent to job growth by making it expensive and nearly impossible to hire new workers through new taxes.
Yes, health care needs to be addressed, but not at the expense of our freedom. Remember, in November 2011, Ohio voters voted overwhelming on Issue 3 which called for exempting residents of Ohio from national health care mandates. Issue 3 was to "protect your health care freedom, preserve your right to choose your doctor and health insurance and keep government out of your personal medical decisions." It passed by a huge majority. But that is now nullified.
As of June 28, our country has been thrust into huge taxes, loss of freedoms over individual health care, and lack of job growth to mention only a few. Indeed the president is moving this country "forward" - right over a cliff. This massive intrusion on our lives can be repealed so we can get a better health care law that is patient-centered, actually reduces costs, expands access and is not a burden on businesses by electing Mitt Romney.
