United Way bike run set

BIKE RUN TO HELP UNITED WAY: The Western Reserve Building and Construction Trades will hold its second annual Motorcycle Bike Run at 11 a.m. July 15 at the Operating Engineers Local 66, 291 McClurg Road, Boardman, to benefit the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. Registration will be at 9 a.m.

The run will start and finish at the Operating Engineers Local 66, with stops in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The last bike in will be at 4 p.m. There also will be a 50/50 raffle. The cost is $15 per rider and $5 per passenger. Donations of toiletries such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste also will be accepted.

All proceeds will benefit feeding the needy in the community through United Way and the AFL-CIO Community Services. For information, call Tara Mady at 330-746-8494.

FOOD TO BE GIVEN: The Warren Family Mission in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank will be holding a fresh produce giveaway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the mission, 361 Elm Road, Warren.

DOCENT TRAINING SET: A docent training class for anyone interested in helping visitors at the John Stark Edwards House and Museum will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 17 at the House, 303 Monroe St. N.W. The training is open to the public as well as members of the Trumbull County Historical Society.

HOT WEATHER PROGRAM OFFERED: The Warren Family Mission is offering a hot weather program due to the high temperatures and heat index warnings. This program will provide people who are homeless an air-conditioned place to stay and three hot meals. The location is 1228 W. Market St. For information, call 330-394-5437.

LIBRARY SHOWCASES PORTRAITS: The Newton Falls Public Library is featuring hand portraits in the Palmer Meeting Room. This is the third year for the collaborative project between the Newton Falls High School visual and language arts students and volunteers from Allan Dell Assisted Living.

The visual arts students interviewed residents and then posed them for hand portrait photographs based upon things of special significance. Students from the language arts department then wrote poems which were joined with the photographs to create glimpses into their lives.

AUXILIARY TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIP: The Trumbull County Firefighters Auxiliary has been awarding nursing scholarships to people who have need for financial assistance in continuing their nursing education. Applicants must be Trumbull County residents, provide recommendations and have completed at least the first year of registered nurse studies by the dateline of applications. Applications can be obtained from Trumbull County Firefighters Auxiliary, c/o Marge Meredith, P.O. Box 9, Farmdale, 44417-0009, or calling Marge Meredith at 330-876-4971.
