Annual street fair planned

CORTLAND LIONS HOST ANNUAL STREET FAIR: The Cortland Lions Club annual street fair will be held Thursday to Saturday along Main Street. The event will include a midway with rides by Lisko Amusements. Wristbands sill be sold for the rides all three evenings. On Thursday there will be a flag raising ceremony by Cub Scout Pack 50 and welcome by city officials at 6:30 p.m., queen contest at 7 p.m., with the winner and her court to be announced at 9:15 p.m. Friday includes entertainment by Haymaker Band at 8 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. on the south yard of Cortand Methodist Church, kiddie matinee and rides open 1 to 5 p.m, Jungle Terry at 2:30 p.m. street fair parade at 6 p.m., and entertainment by the Fillbillys at 8 p.m.

GROUP LAUNCHES "FOOD FOR THE BRAIN CAMPAIGN": First Book-Trumbull County is visiting a number of locations in the area to provide new, free books for children attending community meals and nutrition sites. The ''Food for the Brain Campaign" seeks to reach children from low-income households with reading materials. Books have been passed out at the St. Vincent De Paul Society Dining Hall and the Niles Community Suppers provided by St. Stephen's Catholic Church and First Presbyterian Church. The campaign also has plans to visit a few summer food service program sites, collaborating with the Warren City Schools food services department. SOUP KITCHEN WILL RESUME IN JULY: New Jerusalem Fellowship, 2555 Palmyra Road, S.E., will not hold a soup kitchen in June. The next soup kitchen is July 19. For information, call 330-395-4518.

PROJECT LEARNING TREE OFFERED: Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District and OSU Extension Office will host a combined Project Learning Tree workshop, ''Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood'' and ''Growing Up'' workshop for educators form 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center in Cortland. The program is designed for educators who work with children ages 3 to 6. Cost is $15 with registration by calling 330-638-6783.
