LORDSTOWN - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation Administrator and CEO Stephen Buehrer toured Magna Seating division Lordstown Seating Systems on Friday to recognize the plant for efforts to keep workers safe and return injured workers to health quickly.
Buehrer noted that Lordstown Seating received a $40,000 safety grant from the bureau to buy four robots that help steam-iron wrinkles from seats, reducing the risk of burns and allowing workers to move to other needed positions. Plant management estimated monthly savings at $33,000.
The factory also received a $6,000 safety grant to automate the process of opening and closing the seats for inspection. The change eliminated employee fatigue while doing the work manually. It also boosted productivity by 23 percent and saved almost $1,000 monthly.
''We have an unwavering commitment to providing a safe and healthful work place for our people," said Joe Pittel, Magna Seating president.
