Tylee Park in Hubbard was named for Samuel and Anna Tylee, who in 1801 founded and became the first settlers of Hubbard. A park was built and named in their honor at the intersection of Liberty Street and Main Street, which was originally known as Tylee’s Corners. Over the years, the park had fallen into disrepair, but a little more than a year ago, president of the Hubbard Junior Garden Club, Kathy Thomson, and garden club member Jan Schaller applied for a grant to restore the park. ‘‘At the same time, I was trying to get something done about the condition of the park,’’ said Deborah Shields, executive director of the Hubbard Chamber of Commerce. ‘‘I learned that Mr. Epperson, the city Service Director, was going to have the flower beds, which had become waist high weeds, tilled and planted with grass since the park was such an eyesore,’’ Shields said.
